The Box

Mara McCarthy paved the way for other galleries when she opened this space in 2007. She is the daughter of Paul McCarthy, a Los Angeles artist who actually showed at Hauser & Wirth. She opened with some great shows from underrated artists from the ‘60s. None of her shows feel big and commercial, so they tend to fly under the radar, but they’re totally worth seeing. There’s a great cafe across the street called The Pie Hole. It’s a must.
