Award winning, the Art Museum of South Texas actively collects, conserves, exhibits, researches and interprets outstanding works of visual art with interest in art of the Americas and of the region. TWO ARTISTS. ONE MASTERPIECE. Nowhere is the blend of cultures more present than in the architecture of the museum itself. The two buildings come together as one incredible masterpiece proudly representing Mexican and American cultures. Plan your visit by first visiting their outstanding website.

The bay-front campus of the Art Museum of South Texas is itself a veritable work of art. The original brilliant white shellcrete structure opened in 1972 and was designed by world-renowned architect, post-modern master, Phillip Johnson. The museum's subsequent 2006 expansion into an equally elegant building peaked with small pyramids is the work of Mexican Modernist, Ricardo Legorreta. The majestic buildings feature floor-to-ceiling windows and many architectural touches that play off the South Texas sun and the Corpus Christi Bay. This world-class facility focuses on regional art, but more importantly positions this art and the region in the greater global visual arts scheme. The museum's umbrella organization, (South Texas Institute for the Arts) The Institute offers diverse exhibition and educational programs that reflect the rich multicultural heritage of the region. Outreach and enrichment programs include bilingual gallery talks, artist residencies, videos, dance, theatrical and musical performances.
