Tips from locals
This is the Myakka River, Florida’s first state-designated wild and scenic river, and it flows through a vast expanse of unspoiled wetlands, prairies, hammocks, and pinelands that make up Myakka River State Park. Boating, fishing, canoeing and kayaking are popular activities on the water while hikers and bicyclists explore miles of trails and backroads.
Take the water cruise to check out the 10ft lake, gator sightings and relaxing under the shady canope. Bring bikes if you like to bike along the bike path.
Best place to view gators for $6 per vehicle. Go to the first bridge on main state park road. The state park also has a trail along the myakka River where you can spot gators up close and personal in their natural habitat. The trail starts off at the northern/eastern side of the bridge.
