Why locals recommend it

Thanks to Gordon, the cheese buyer, the selection in this worker-owned co-op is phenomenal. He often judges cheese competitions and writes cheese books. He can tell fabulous stories about each cheese and cheesemaker. This store is an example of a community-minded slice of San Francisco. If you were driving by, under the freeway, you’d think it was a warehouse. They’re always bringing in interesting cheeses, so don’t be afraid to try something new. Find Gordon—or anyone who works in the cheese department—and ask them to suggest something.

Rainbow is a wonderful local grocery, worker-owned, where you can buy organic and bulk foods, as well as health supplements, soaps, regular packaged foods such as cereal, cheese, dairy, etc. Walking distance if you're a NYC walker, or bus (12 Folsom) or Lyft ride away.
