Tips from locals
Enjoy this historic sight that has been one of Rochester treasures! It's a short walk to dining, the beach and pubs.
This is not only Lake Ontario's oldest surviving lighthouse, but also the oldest ACTIVE lighthouse. (United States Coast Guard Light List as light number 2333) The tower was constructed in 1822 on a hill just West of the Genesee River and is 40 feet high with an additional 12 feet of height for the lantern room. There are 42 steps and then an 11 rung ladder that takes you to the top. Here you will experience a beautiful panorama view of the surrounding area. A good stop to combine with a visit to Charlotte Beach/Ontario Beach Park.
