Tips from locals
Florida’s west coast is not a surfing hotspot, but the jetties, meant to battle erosion, help to create decent-size surf with regularity. (They’re also home to some great fishing, as resident anglers will attest.) Bait shop and concession stand, plus year-round lifeguards, restrooms and volleyball and horseshoe courts.
The beach is wonderful. You can view lots of wildlife here depending on the time of the year, such as Manatee, dolphins and lots of fish. Great place to fish and swim
Beside a channel that goes from the Intracoastal to the Gulf of Mexico, so you can watch boats go in and out. Go fishing from the jetty. Picnic tables and playground Enjoy breakfast or lunch from the North Jetty Tap and Grill
Here is where the intercoastal waterway goes out to the ocean. There is a walkway down the jetty, one side is rocks that you can fish off of and the other side is part of Nokomis Beach. Boats going in and out and almost every time we see dolphins or manatees swimming in and out of the channel. Lots of pelicans and shells. Something for everyone to do.
