Tips from locals
Monte Celio is home to the historical place where Paul and Peter met. Both went on to become saints and die a not too pleasant death. Christianity honoured the place with another cathedral.
The basilica of Ss.Giovanni and Paolo rises in the homonymous square on the western slope of celium and is dedicated to the two Roman officers John and Paul, fervent Christians and victims of the persecution of the Emperor Julian the apostate who in 362 A.D. had them killed and buried in their own home.
A beautifully adorned church constructed over the dwelling of 4th-century Christian martyrs (Saints John and Paul). It provides a unique view of the city from its outdoor courtyard.
