Tips from locals
This breathtaking trail is on an old rail line winding through the mountains. For a flatter biking adventure, you can explore The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes or the local Centennial Trail or north to Farragut State Park
The Hiawatha Bike Trial is an amazing experience. All down hill this trail is along the very old Milwaukee Railroad right-of-way that once wound its way though the mountains. The tracks have been long removed and it’s a perfect, wide, bike trail with vistas that will scream, “Wow!” You bike through tunnels (1.6 miles is the longest) and over mountain trestles. Spectacular and easy riding. Historic info markers along the way too. You can rent bikes and helmets there (about $75 a head). Reservations and early morning is our recommendation. Bring water, snacks, layered clothing, camera. The start is about a 2 hour drive from the Coop and the bike ride itself is about 2 hours. Then on your way back eat lunch in Wallace, Idaho. We did this in July 2021 and it was much fun.
