A unique mix of modern and old, with lovely waterside walks and parks to enjoy.

Large supermarket, can be very cheap, wide range of products including lots of non-food and clothing, has a restaurant also, however Asda is usually not great quality but can be ok.

Favourite pubs and bars in the Isle of Dogs: **The Gun** One of the most historic pubs in London, The Gun also has comfort and character in spades, fireside cosiness and spectacular views in this Docklands gem. The riverside terrace is perfect for a summer day, and there's now a gin garden too, if that's your thing. A roast, accompanied by the jug of Bloody Mary, is an ideal Sunday activity, but you'll need to book ahead or turn up early as people travel far and wide for a taste of riverside history. **Hubbub** Near the western shore of the island, what appears to be, an oversized model village version of Pisa Cathedral. This polychromatic brick marvel is 'The Space', neatly converted from an 1840’s Presbyterian mission to multi-use local arts venue. To the side and up the stairs in the former vestry and classrooms there is Hubbub, an excellent Café/bar that also functions as a pub. The look is 'eclectic indie bar' taking care not to fight with the original features. Check out the lovely original but currently non-functioning gas lights and don’t miss the tiny soldiers glued to the ceiling. The crowd is well mixed, with locals, students and trendy tourists. Beers on tap include San Miguel, Stella Artois plus Guinness Extra Cold and Thatchers Gold Cider. In bottles, a broad and ever changing range of beers, porters, ales and ciders, and there's a good range of wines. The food is fab, from the classic all day breakfast to falafels, steaks, proper burgers and a rather good chocolate brownie. A Tastecard may be used with pre-bookings and takeaway service is available. Hubbub is the perfect stopping place for a round the island trek or weekend brunch. **The Nelson** At the southern tip of the Isle of Dogs, you'll find the decidedly non-touristy Lord Nelson. It's what some might call a 'good old-fashioned boozer', with no pretensions, no complicated craft ales, no gastro-fare, but bags of jolly atmosphere. The corner Victorian building contains many references to its nautical namesake. It also contains a pool table, which is always very welcome, and got plenty of play on our visit. The beer range is fine, if nothing remarkable, while the inexpensive pub grub is heavy on the pies and burgers. Others: The Ledger Building The Ship The Grapes (not actually on the Isle of Dogs, but a very good pub) Pepper St Ontiod
