The Circus of Maxentius (which is much better-preserved than the Circus Maximus) is one of the finest sites on the Appian Way
edificato dall'imperatore Massenzio durante il suo breve regno (306-312 d.C.) ed è costituito da tre monumenti principali: il circo, il palazzo ed il mausoleo di Romolo. Quest'ultimo fu costruito da Massenzio in memoria del figlio Romolo, morto nelle acque del Tevere nel 307.
