The village of Te Wairoa was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886. Successive archaeological excavations have unearthed areas of the village to provide an insight into the life and times of the people who lived here. Set in a beautiful landscape the walk and the history make this a worthwhile 1/2 day visit.
