Just two hours’ drive from Bangkok, Kaeng Krachan is one of Thailand’s most bountiful and ecologically diverse national parks. The park’s 2,915sqm forest area consists of pristine rainforests, granite mountain ranges, waterfalls, caves and a reservoir lake, offering plenty of trekking and bird-watching opportunities. The park features many wild as well as endangered animals, including black-and-yellow broadbills, barking deer, tapirs, Asian elephants, tigers, wild dogs and Asiatic leopards.

Kaeng Krachan's forest is particularly diverse with large numbers of continental trees including oaks, maples and chestnuts as well as peninsular palms and fruiting trees. In addition to these, you will see many types of hanging lianas, orchids and aerial ferns. Over 400 spieces of bird and 57 mammals have been recorded within Kaeng Krachan's borders. Of the larger mammals, there are chances to see elephant, guar, sambar, banteng, serow, bear, tiger, leopard, barking deer, tapir, gibbon, langur, wild dog, wild pig and otters. Importants bird life includes hornbill, red junglefowl, peacock-pheasants, stork, black eagles, songbirds and woodpeckers.

KaengKrachan National Park is the biggest national park in Thailand with the area of 2,915 squarekilometers or 1.8 million rai. It was certified as one of the national park on 12th June 1981 counting the territory from the reservoir and the forest over the dam as the national park’s area. This dam is the water source of many rivers. Most of the areas are alternating hills in the Tanaosri mountain range with the wet evergreen forest landscape. The highest mountain peak in this area is Kao NgaNganNikYuang Tong (1,513 meters) which is in joint area of Thailand and Myanmar. The second highest mountain peak is Kao PanernToong with the height 1,207 meters from the mean sea level.
