La Laguna is a meeting place for modern people and young students around their university, the first in the Canary Islands. The pedestrian streets of the center are always full of life, with street musicians and hundreds of bars, restaurants and bars. Beyond visits to its shops, with sumptuous vintage items or avant-garde fashion clothing, it is very comforting to know the churches, mansions and historic buildings of this ancient and dazzling city declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna (commonly known as La Laguna) is the second-most populous city of the island. La Laguna's historical center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. The city was the ancient capital of the Canary Islands, and lies right alongside the Santa Cruz, thus the two cities form a single large urban center, linked by tram. The city is home to the University of La Laguna and is considered to be the cultural capital of the Canary Islands. In this city one finds the legendary house of the spectre of Catalina Lercaro, as well as the incorrupt body of Sor María de Jesús, and the Cristo de La Laguna. Another emblematic building of the city is the Cathedral.

The city was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1999 as a unique example of a non-walled colonial city. It is home to the Canary Islands Consultative Council, the Canarian Astrophysics Institute, the Diocese of Tenerife, the Tenerife North Airport And the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. The first university founded in the Canary Islands, and the first and oldest active institute of the archipelago, for which La Laguna was historically considered the intellectual center of the Canaries. It was the seat of the General Captaincy of Canary Islands (1656-1723), and until 18336 was the de facto capital of the Canarian archipelago.
