It was designed by Michelangelo in the sixteenth century. At the center of the trapezoidal square is the statue of Marcus Aurelius. The square is surrounded by three palaces: the Palazzo Nuovo, the Palazzo Senatorio and the Palazzo dei Conservatori. The three house the Capitoline Museums, a very rich collection of finds from ancient Rome.
