Tips from locals
A spectacular walk down to the sea with views across the Seven Sisters cliffs. Cuckmere Haven has been used as a film location in many TV programmes and films including Luther, Silent Witness, Atonement, Foyles War, Worsel Gummage and Harry Potter.
A beautiful walking area on the flood plains of the river Cuckmere where the river joins the sea. The beach itself is next to the seven sisters, and the river is often used for kayaking and canoeing. There is pleasant Vintage Inn pub called The Cuckmere Inn which is great for a post-walk bite to eat.
Cuckmere Haven is a wonderful place to visit. Catch a Number 12 bus from Brighton (timetables are online) to Exceat, then walk along the River Cuckmere to the beach. Marvel at the view of the Seven Sisters cliffs - one of Britain's most famous views - or, if you have the legs, climb the cliffs and walk along towards Beachy Head and Birling Gap.
