The Foundation was established in 1983 by the former Hypotheken- und Wechselbank to mark the occasion of its 150th anniversary. Two years later, on 14 June 1985, the Kunsthalle opened its doors for the general public. HypoVereinsbank’s great commitment to both the Foundation and the Kunsthalle remains unchanged to this day. Nestled between Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz in the heart of Munich, the Kunsthalle organises three exhibitions annually and has built up an international reputation. In 2001, the Kunsthalle moved into its current premises in the “Fünf Höfe” complex, designed and built by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. With an area of approximately 1,200 m² equipped with state of the art museum technology, the exhibition space provides a worthy stage for all artforms. Every year, the Kunsthalle welcomes around 300,000 visitors and is one of Germany’s leading exhibition venues.
