Dog Parks
This dog park on the West side of town is my favorite because it has a creek running through it. Also huge trees. This was a neighborhood until the Flood of 1972. You can still see overgrown patios, driveways and foundations. It's a great park for all seasons. Do keep an eye on your dog as a few dogs are not friendly.

Lots of space for dogs to run. Lots of small dogs. There are postings to watch for rattlesnakes . . . I've never seen one at the park; it doesn't mean there aren't any. That goes for any where in the Hills though.

A guest found this gem and brought home extraordinary pastries and sandwiches. My favorite were the strawberry/rhubarb breakfast pastries. Open for breakfast & lunch only, Tues thru Saturday - check Bashful Bison hours online. 523 Main St. Rapid City, SD.

Alpine Inn added a vegetarian spaetzle to their menu; so 3 items on the menu: The large filet mignon and the small filet mignon. Both are wrapped in bacon and cooked to order. Your meat meal includes a lettuce wedge with homemade ranch dressing, a baked potato, & "Texas" toast. The best steak for the price! And maybe just the best steak. Upbeat atmosphere. They serve Prairie Berry wines and have a full bar. Tip: during peak season get there at or before 5:00 to get your name on the list. They do not take reservations, however, they appreciate a call if you are a large party.

Free to look at the monument. $10 to park 1 vehicle. There are many good views of Mt Rushmore from outside the National Memorial. A famous view is a profile of George Washington, a little further up the road. Watch for mountain goats who frequent this area.

Interesting. I have not been to the Volksmarch and if you like to hike with a large group, you should go. The hike is to Crazy Horse's arm where you can inspect the carved face, up-close & personal. Cool!
Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation and BHVA will host the Fall Volksmarch in October. The autumn hike will be held on SUNDAY OCTOBER 2, 2022 and will be held the same weekend as the Custer State Park Buffalo Round-Up.
The bi-annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch (an organized hike) is a 10K or 6.2-mile woodlands ramble to the world's largest mountain carving in progress in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota.
The Spring Volksmarch in 2023 will be the FIRST SATURDAY OF JUNE 2023, only. Excerpted from:Crazy Horse Memorial, Volksmarch, from Crazy Horse Memorial website. Last accessed August 15, 2022.
