As the weather cools off during spring and fall, local wildlife is more active at the North Brigantine State Natural Park Area. Park visitors can see shorebirds migrate to and from the New Jersey coast in spring, while herds of Monarch butterflies can be spotted in fall. Winters are windy and cold, and sometimes it snows. The nearby Atlantic City Historical Museum and Noyes Museum of Art are great indoor activities for these types of days, and are less than an hour away using public transportation, or 20 minutes by car.

Brigantine Seawall and Beach

Starting on the northside of Brigantine’s coast, you can walk south along the Brigantine Seawall on your way to the beach. Tall light posts and park benches line the seawall, ensuring a bright and easy path to follow. Brigantine Beach greets visitors at the end of the 20-minute walk, and because this swim-friendly beach faces the vast Atlantic Ocean, the ultimate prize for the travel done is the colorful backdrop that arrives at sunset.

Brigantine Beach Historical Museum

This small, beach house-style building is the only local museum in Brigantine. The Brigantine Beach Historical Museum displays photographs and old relics from the 1900s to help recount Brigantine’s intriguing past, encompassing stories from its first shipwrecked inhabitants and the town’s resilience through major storms like Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

North Brigantine State Natural Park Area

The North Brigantine State Natural Park Area is one of the longest stretches of protected coastline in New Jersey. Nearly three miles of flat, undeveloped beach cover the park grounds, accompanied by small coastal dunes. You can explore the oceanfront areas on foot, but visitors should be advised that swimming is not permitted. Pockets of lush, green marshland surround the park’s two-story wildlife viewing platform, and hundreds of bird species make appearances year-round. Endangered piping plovers, the red-beaked American oystercatcher, and the colorful bellied red knot birds are some of the few rare species you might encounter on a good day.
