This 1-bedroom, 1-bath home is just one block south of Main Street and a few blocks west of the Arkansas River. The bungalow has just the basics for those looking to unplug for a bit. This affordable option was originally built as railroad worker housing, and I bought it as a raft guide/teacher over 15 years ago, and used it as my first home and base for adventure. Warm, cozy, southwestern ranch style home 100 feet from the South Arkansas river. We built it in 2014 and it’s on 20-acres with a private drive, 900' of riverfront with a trail, superb privacy with great views; its only 3.5-miles from downtown Salida and 18-miles from Monarch. We have a big garden, and goose, chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl (fresh eggs!), and we're frequented by visits from deer, great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks, and sometimes wild turkeys and elk.

My place is about 15 to 20 minutes to restaurants and family-friendly activities in Salida. We are about 30 minutes to Mount Princeton Hot Springs and 30 minutes to Monarch Ski Resort. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). We also have a propane grill for you to use.
